Dear Sir/Madam,
First of all, I would like to say thank you for spending my precious time reading my study
plan.
I graduated in July 2007 from Vietnam National University – Social Sciences and Humanities
University with a Bachelor of English Linguistics and Literature, which means I have no
background in business. I, however, have been working in the business environment for more
than 3 years now. I first joined IBM Global Procurement Center as a buyer supporting North
America market. Then I moved on to Sales and Distribution department of IBM Vietnam.
During the time in IBM, I discover that business really has my interest in it. My employers
are great influencers to me. What inspires me is their business mind and the way they make
influence on people and have jobs done beautifully. Somehow, it’s so artful to me.
Working in IBM Procurement and Sales help me earn valuable experience and skills. I realize
that I’m quite good at communication. Procurement and Sales equips me with negotiation and
persuasion skills. Observation of my managers’ management skill is what I pay a lot of time
and attention to. Most importantly, I try to take every chance I have to practice all these skills
as well as other relevant ones. At this point of time, I’m really excited when thinking of
working in official management position which can make me powerful and influential
persons likes my employers. I have the belief and confidence that I will be able to perform
well in this role. Nevertheless, on second thought, my currents employers are still employees
of other employers, which is not really my idea of being an absolute employer. Therefore, a
business of my own would be able to satisfy my wish.
For the moment, Vietnam does suffer from the effect of the global crisis. People are trying to
cut down the expenses and make reasonable finance management to survive through it. By
wandering around the shopping centers in Ho Chi Minh city, the biggest city in Vietnam, I
can tell people are now more careful and calculating on buy decision for clothing, luxury
goods… Still, I see people not hesitating paying money for food. The evidence is most of the
restaurants and food courts in the city are always full of customers. It is believed that the food
industry would never disappear. It is always our necessity as long as we exist. Obviously,
investment in restaurants is what most people would think about. When many people think of
one option, differences will make the successful ones. My goal is to open the first restaurant
in Vietnam where customers are able to view the menu with lively pictures of the dishes,
make orders and requests by touch screens which can be faces of the table. The computer
receives the orders and requests and send them to the kitchen for processing. Certainly,
additional services will be there to attract the customers and will be developed based on
business need. I have positive feeling that customers will welcome this kind of restaurant.
While investment on the technology to open the restaurant is very important, that of
management is no less important. I realize that in order to manage this restaurant properly, I
need to equip myself with good knowledge and management skills. This is very crucial
preparation if I really want to make decent and profitable business. My sources tell me that
University of Texas A&M –, USA, should be the right choice for my preparation with its
accredited MBA program. I’m, therefore, writing this statement expressing my desire to be
accepted to your MBA program. My study plan is:
