There are many factors that cause water shortage greatly depends on the geographic and
economic situation of the area. This resource focus particularly on a country, South Africa,
which has almost all the common factors that cause water shortage such as increasing
industrial activity and human pollution. In addition, due to its geographic location, the presence
of invasive alien plant species and unevenly distributed of water are two of the factors that are
less common in other countries. Hence, by choosing this resource, it not only allows us to look
at both common and uncommon factors in depth, but also allows us to look at how each factor
interacts with the others in one country, causing more restriction and difficulties to solve the
problem. In addition to the factors causing water shortage, this book also illustrates some of
the economic and social impact of it and how a government could do to reduce the pressure of
water shortage such as placing water tariff, which indeed, is not as effective as predicted.
Overall, this resource emphasizes more on the natural and environmental aspects while the
second resource I use would be more industrial and human activity based. It will allow my
research paper to be more comprehensive.
