Arlington Virginia has estimated population of 230, 050 people according to the
2010 census report, indicating growth rate of 0.94%. The reason why I chose Arlington for my
business venture of opening a fitness center is because according to research the area has 17.50%
of its population affected with obesity, a10.10% adult smoking rate and 18.70% excessive
drinking rate, hence this area has people living with many lifestyle issues within the society
(Areavibes.com, 2018).
Demographics
According to (Areavibes.com, 2018), Arlington has a total population of
207,627. Of this population, 15% of the population is whites, 9% hispanic, 8% African American
and 5% other races. The percentage of male population in the area is 51%, with 2,300 of the
male aged 12-18 years. Women make up 41% of the population, and 4000 of the female
population is made up of teenagers aged 12-18. Also it is important to note that Arlington has
over 65% of its people married with kids while 35% are single (Smith and Cody, 2013). This
information on family is important when understanding demographics of Arlington in order to
know the family trends in this town.
The level of education in this region is 90% as the area record a total of 94% of
people aged 12 to 24 as high school graduates (Bestplaces.net, 2018). For example areas such as
Falls Church have a higher rating of 98% of its teenagers to have graduated from high school.
Being one of the most populated areas Arlington Virginia recorded an unemployment rate of

3.90%, job growth 1.12% and future growth was predicted to be 38.34% as of the year 2017. As
a result the area record household income of $53,055 monthly and median per capita of $25,236.
All this statistics are important in starting my finesses club as they help in predicting the
expected number of people and also estimate the target group. Also the financial information of
the people in this area is important as it enables easy formulation of the gym fee and membership
fees.
Health issues:
This paper proposes two major health issues that youths in Arlington face with
the aim of establishing a suitable environment in which such individuals can be helped in
reconstructing their lifestyle into a healthy lifestyle. One major issue is obesity among
adolescents. From research done by Gallup-Healthways Well-being index which is responsible
for tracking obesity levels in America, the findings indicated that Arlington County has
increasing levels of adolescents with obesity 17.50% in 2015 due to the fact that almost 15% of
the adolescents are very inactive (Chang, 2010). The same research also indicated that 13.90%
adolescents, 13.90% smoke Marijuana or Tobacco which is a threat to their health. By having a
fitness center which provides both group and individual personal training to the obese
adolescents, this will provide an avenue in which many can join the gym and start training to
boost their fitness level as well as their health. Also the percentage of adolescents who are
struggling with smoking in this region can join the fitness center, where they learn to be active
and learn various nutritional plans and adjustments of their lifestyle.

Adolescent obesity has been a threat that many countries try to fight today. with
the increased awareness on readjusting our lifestyles in order to be able to avoid obesity and
other lifestyle related illnesses it has been a common routine to meet many young adults early in
the morning running around the pavements. If this fitness center will be located at Arlington city,
I estimate a turnaround of at least 100 regular clients every day. Hence this may lead to a total of
around 400 clients on a monthly basis both regular and those who come on and off. This
numbers are estimated based on the fact that many teenagers want to look good and watch their
weight, as a result an introduction of anew gym in the area will most definitely attract many
young people into the gym making this project viable as the benefits will be higher than the cost
of starting the gym.
Establish customer/membership fees and special packages:
In order to ensure effective running of the gym, members of these gym will have
two types of customers those who come in any day for example once a week, this group will be
paying $20 per day for the services offered to them on that day and the second group is the
regular members. This are those individuals that will be coming into the gym on a monthly basis
and the payment for one full month will be $100. The members who come on a monthly basis
will have three membership categories to choose from; first is the monthly package that goes for
$100, then there will be the quarterly package of payment which will be $250 and the annual

Also in addition to the monthly, quarterly and annual membership, the gym will also provide
clients with another package that is suitable for family whereby if a person enrolls at least three
of their family members they will pay a monthly fee of $ 250 saving $50 every month, $500

Introduction:
Arlington’s Fitness Center is taking center stage in ensuring that people are healthy and
have maintained manageable weight with strong muscles to perform daily duties. The target
market will be the teenagers since they are highly affected by weight gain due to the eating
habits and lack of exercise. Considering that there are not many sports activities taking pave in
Arlington, a flow of teenagers will rush to get a chance to exercise at Arlington Fitness Center.
The facility will accommodate a maximum of 2,000 people per session. Set session times will be
allocated to subscribers based on their availability because space is small and cannot
accommodate all subscribers at the same time. . However, the first 2,000 people to sign up will
be given priority in choosing the most preferable time for them to exercise. Membership will run
for a period of one year at a flat rate of $199 regular and $350 to persons with special needs such
as the disabled who require special attention during the sessions.
Branding:
Choosing the company name is based on the location of the business and will help people
to identify who and where we are. The logo has a person exercising to indicate the kind of
activities taking place at the center. The color is blue as the sky color and it represent stability

Newspapers are a traditional way of passing information and making advertisements. A

complications that require them to source for information on newspapers that will make them
develop interest to our business as we offer health solutions to weight management and shape
exercising. People with white color jobs consume fast foods due to lack of enough time to
prepare meals and having much money to pay for almost everything to make their lives easier.
On the classifieds section of the newspapers, I will include a section to advertise Arlington’s
Fitness Center and include contacts and the lowest subscription a person can be subscribed. The
population of 230,050 people living in Arlington, I presume that at least a quarter of the

population will get access to newspapers and pass the word about the fitness center due to the
services offered and reasonable charges (Editors of Salem Press, 2017). According to recent
research, the youths in Arlington are going through the challenge of obesity. Such fats will be
burn by the strong exercises offered at Arlington Fitness Center and help to get back the nice
shapes of the teenagers who are bursting out because of taking a lot of junk and fast foods. The

fees. Despite making small fees to the site officials, it will be economical and easy to reach out to

(Aydın, & Şahin, 2017). During such a time, seeing sponsored posts about physical fitness can

For one to become fit and working out it does not solemnly mean taking an hour or two on the
treadmill on a daily basis and also it does not resemble weight training through a marathon. For
one to be able to achieve fitness he or she is supposed to undergo training and fun workouts that
are challenging and that they are supposed to be different Kotler, Kotler, & Kotler, (2008).
Mission Statement
The mission statement of Arlington’s Fitness Center is “A Guide to Your Fitness.”There a lot of
people who are working to their level best in trying to keep their body fit but due to their
different health condition, one has to undergo the different level of fitness and the different ways
of attaining it.
For instance, people who suffer from obesity and diabetes need to undertake fat burning
exercise and the exercise must be governed so that bodybuilding tasks cannot be performed so
that the situation cannot be complicated.
Therefore, the guiding principle is monitoring people’s health status and ensuring they have
consumed the rightful diets and exercised well Jolivette, & Nelson (2010).
The business will be a sole proprietorship since it is a personal idea and funding sources are
ready. The legal process of starting a sole proprietorship are few and easy to complete unlike
other forms of business where more than one person is required to consent to every step made to
facilitate registration of business. Also in a sole proprietorship, the internal revenue service’s has
sated up the rules. In addition, the tax file return of sole proprietorship is filled sole in one file for
the business. A sole proprietorship will give Arlington’s Fitness Center an opportunity to avoid

the double taxation and due to this the owner will deduct some cash from the business expenses
and in turn, it lowers the taxable income amount of the owner. In sole proprietorship the business

Lowering of BMI
The availability of fast foods which are full of fats and the poor eating habits of most youth in
Arlington it has led them to become overweight.
We have projected to offer weight loss training and aerobics favorable to both male and female
youths to return to normal weight.
Increase of strength
Due to lack of hard work and use of less effort in working, white collars job individuals are weak
in handling home chores that require simple effort hence we offer training that makes people
become stronger. Based on our feasibility study at Arlington, we found that many people live a
luxurious life and do not like handling complex tasks hence they are weak and need to be strong.
Training individuals for events
Most female youths in Arlington enjoy taking part in modeling events. But due to their shapes
and body weight, we will offer event training activities for models and other celebs for special
events. Through such a service, many of the ladies who feel overcome by weight gain can be
helped to manage and reduce fat King, Jeffery, Fridinger, Dusenbury, Provence, Hedlund, &

There are several services that Arlington fitness center offers. One of the services that Arlington
fitness offers is that it has a spacious floor that offers adequate space for the gym people while
they are practicing. Also Arlington fitness center has a room that is designed only for the free
weights. In Arlington fitness center you will find a cardio theatre which is fully equipped with all
stationary bikes, treadmills and TV displays. This helps people who suffer from heart, blood
vessel or heart problem to engage fully in their practices. Arlington fitness center offers spin
cycle exercise classes for everyone. For special people like the one who suffers from a disability,
Arlington fitness center are able to offer personal gym training to them. Arlington fitness center
has a spacious changing room with lockers for every member. A key is issued upon arrival to
make use of a locker within a session attended because we cannot offer permanent lockers to
every subscriber but it will be made use by one person at a time who will return the key after the
session.
