A hungry world
One of the greatest challenges facing the world in the 21st century is the food insecurity issue.
It’s not that there is not enough food in the world to feed everyone but that the food is unevenly
distributed. In fact, according to some experts, the world currently has two to three times the
amount of food that would be needed to feed everyone. The thing is that some parts of the world
have more than they need while some parts do not have enough to go by. There is no food
shortage in the world; there is just a distribution problem.
Since there is actually an excess of food, there is a lot of wastage. This is because it does not get
to those who need it. People have been trying to solve the food insecurity problem in affected
areas using short-term solutions instead of going for more permanent measures. Most of those
who suffer from hunger live in developing countries. Efforts should be focused on minimizing
wastage of food by distributing it from areas with food surplus to areas with food deficits. It’s
going to take time but this is the key to ending world hunger.
