Topic of discussion post
Greatest Leaders in History
History throughout the ages has recorded a multitude of individuals who
have demonstrated knowledge, skills, abilities, traits, characteristics, and
personalities that attract followers. Not only are followers drawn to these
leaders, they are influenced so strongly they are led to places they would
not go on their own.
In your initial post to this discussion, identify three leaders whom you
believe exemplify this description of a leader and explain why you think so.
Provide a brief description for each leader and indicate the historical event
that helped to define that individual as a leader. Keep in mind that leaders
may not always lead or influence in a positive way, but the strengths they
possess allow them to influence and lead. Note also that you may identify
leaders who may not be famous but instead are very influential to you.
Discussion response
Leaders are extremely important to any type of organization, and most
importantly healthcare. “Workers need someone to look to, learn from and thrive
with” (Caramela, 2017). For this discussion, we are instructed to identify three
leaders whom I believe exemplify the description of a leader. For this
assignment, I chose to discuss the following: Ken Chenault, Wendy Kopp, and
Howard Schultz.

Ken Chenault- As the operating CEO of American Express Ken Chenault is listed as
one of the most accomplished leaders in global finance. Although he has decided to
retire this year, Chenault ultimately led this company successfully for more than
twenty-five years. After law school, he began with the AMEX company in the
strategic planning department. With hard work and determination, he was able to
quickly climb the ladder to COO, then soon after transitioned into CEO. As a leader

within the healthcare industry, it’s my obligation to learn from leaders as such to
take note of the skills and qualities needed to promote accordingly.
Wendy Kopp- Kopp is the CEO and co-founder of Teach For All corporation. What
started as her senior thesis, became the global idea of developing educators to
ensure all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential. Leaders are
able to move on a just an idea and build a monumental cooperation. Kopp inspires
me to not only take head on my Capstone residency, but also to move forward with
putting my plan into motion developing healthcare.
Howard Schultz- One of the many reasons I aspire to be a leader such as Schultz is
because he aims at the idea of “forever growing”. With a planned six stores on
development, Schultz grew this “idea” and company to serve over 75 countries.
Schultz undermines vulnerability and the ability to crash at any point. As a leader,
you have to possess the ability to correct actions when failing, without losing
credibility. Schultz has been described as completing this task many times without
consumer knowledge.
In my opinion, these three leaders exemplify all very different characteristics that
describes a leader. These leaders are very influential, and all have workers or
someone that looks up to them in hopes of traveling the same influential career
path.
